Gold Party FAQs

How do I host a Gold Party?

Once you’ve made up your mind to make some easy cash, while having fun at your own Gold Party, simply telephone the Gold Party office on 1300 358 927. Our gold experts will explain how an Gold Party works, and how you can earn great money quickly and easily. They will take your booking and help you to set up your own personal home Gold Party.

What are the benefits of hosting a Gold Party?

Parties are always great fun, but an Gold Party has the distinct advantage of earning money for you, while you catch up with your friends and family. A Gold Party at your home also gives you a chance to sell any old jewellery or scrap gold that is worthless to you while ever it’s unwearable or lying around gathering dust. Not only will your friends enjoy this unique social situation, but they will also love leaving your house with some extra cash in their wallet. Your local Gold Parties Australia representative will help with the cost of the party, and as a host you will receive 10% of what we buy. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

Is hosting a Gold Party a lot of effort?

Not at all! Gold Parties Australia will provide you with the invitations in PDF format. You will just need to send these out to your friends via email. It’s completely up to you to decide on the size and style of party you want to hold. It can be as simple or extravagant as you want, and you may even choose to have a certain theme for your gold party. The host/hostess will decide what food or drink to serve, or if they want to ask people to bring a plate of food or any alcohol. If the party is big enough, Gold Parties Australia will even kick in $70 towards the costs of the food and drink. You may like to host a tea party, wine tasting, barbecue, or select a special theme for your party. It’s all up to you.

How many guests do you need for a successful Gold Party?

Gold Parties Australia measures success by the amount of gold that is bought by us at your Gold Party. In our experience, to ensure this success, you will need a party with 10 to 20 people. Not only is this size manageable and fun, if your friends have loads of gold to sell, you can count on your commission cheque being much larger. It’s important to remember that when residual parties are booked by those attending your party, you will earn a 3% commission on gold sold at these parties. So it stands to reason, the higher the number of people dedicated to selling gold at your Gold Party, the more likelihood you will have of getting more party bookings after your own party.

How long does the average Gold Party last?

This depends on the number of people you have invited to your party, but on average, your Gold Party should last from two to three hours. We base this figure on the fact that each guest usually takes 20 minutes to deal with our gold expert, who will sort and weigh the gold, and then offer and give payment to this person. Don’t forget that if your friends are having a fabulous time, the party can go on for as long as you like, but once our gold expert has finished his/her job, they will discreetly pack up their equipment, give the host a cheque for the calculated party commissions, and leave quietly. Again it is up to the host how much longer the party continues.

What happens if a guest can’t attend my Gold Party, but still wants to sell their gold?

The date for your party may not suit everyone, and sometimes people are extremely disappointed when they discover they have missed a wonderful opportunity to sell their gold. If this happens, we would be delighted to arrange a private consultation with this person and one of our gold experts. We can schedule an appointment for this person to come to one of our many offices around Australia, where we will assess and weigh the jewellery, and make them a generous monetary offer. We will follow the same process in our office, as we would have followed at your party. As this person is your friend, we will ensure that you still receive your 10% commission for this transaction. On rare occasions, we can organise for this person to leave their scrap gold with the host at their party. In this case we will assess and weigh the gold, and write a cheque to the host who will in turn settle this transaction with their friend.

What if I prefer a private consultation?

Not everyone is able to host a Gold Party, nor attend a Gold Party, but they still often have scrap gold they want to sell. If this is the case we are happy to see you privately to assess, weigh and purchase your gold. You may also choose to bring in scrap gold on behalf of your friends, and if this happens, we will still give you a commission for gold sold on behalf of others. Call (02) 8021 3123 to make an appointment.

Should I encourage my guests to book their own Gold Party?

Definitely! Any Gold Party booked by one of your guests will continue to make cash for you. Gold Parties Australia will give you 3% commission on any party booked by a guest attending your party or referred to us by you directly. The more, the merrier!

How much does Gold Parties Australia pay for gold?

As the price of gold changes daily, the exact price of the gold will not be known until the day of the party, however, we are always happy to give you an approximate price for the gold, so you have ball-park figure to work with. This will be based on the average price per gram of gold on the market during the previous few weeks. It’s important to know that there are many factors that affect the price you will receive for your gold, and these include the current “spot price” of gold, its karat and the physical weight of your gold.

Will you buy gold jewellery with stones in it?

At Gold Parties Australia we only buy gold and platinum, however we are happy to accept any jewellery with stones. As we are not stone experts, we will have to deduct the weight of the stone from the official weigh in, and this may involve removing the stone in your presence, if you have signed a “release of liability” form beforehand. As we cannot guarantee against damage to the stone, we do advise that you have a professional jeweller remove the stone before selling the gold to us.

How do I know if the jewellery is real gold?

We have trained gold experts on hand who will determine the true value of your gold. It is our policy to test and weigh all of your gold in front of you – we don’t hide anything. It is important to us that everyone is completely satisfied with the assessment and weighing process, which will determine your jewellery’s true value based on its gold content. If you are unsure whether or not a piece is real gold, don’t be afraid to bring it along to be tested. Some jewellery is so skillfully gold plated it is easy to assume it is the genuine article, when it actually isn’t. Conversely some true gold may have colour variations that have led you to believe it is fake or poor quality. Either way, our trained experts will help you to determine the actual value of your gold, and based on this, will make you an offer.

What happens to the scrap gold bought by Gold Parties Australia?

After the Gold Party, it is customary for Gold Parties Australia to hold your gold for a brief time frame, based on local laws and regulations. Once this holding period is over, your scrap gold will be melted down, and the jewellery refined into pure gold.

What is a Karat when referring to gold?

Karat (abbreviated Kt) is a measure of the quality or purity of gold in a piece of jewellery. There are many grades of gold. 24 karat gold is pure gold; 18 karat gold has  18 of the 24 parts gold, and the remaining six parts are of mixed alloy metals such as  silver, copper, nickel, zinc, tine and manganese, depending on the colour; 14 karat gold has 14 of the 24 parts gold, with the remaining 10 parts mixed metals; 12 karat gold contains about 50% gold mixed with other alloy metals (typically silver, copper, nickel, zinc, tine and manganese, depending on the colour); 9 karat gold has nine of the 24 parts gold, with the remaining parts other metals.

Explain the “spot price” of gold?

This is the most up-to-date price of gold being sold in the commodities markets. Gold Parties Australia uses the most current price quoted from this renowned metals trading site issued from the National Australia Bank in the name of Gold Parties Austalia.

How and when will I be paid?

As soon as you accept the offer made by Gold Parties Australia to buy your gold, you will be given a cheque issued from xxxxx in the name of Gold Parties Australia. Our company chooses this method of payment as it is the safest and most reliable option for all our customers.

Does a Gold Party host need to provide any identification for herself or her guests?

Yes. It is important that we have the correct identification for each host and person attending a Gold Party to ensure that all members of the community are fully protected from the unlawful sale and purchase of stolen goods. We find that most people like to supply us with their Medicare number, and we also ask that each guest provides an additional form of identification such as a driver’s licence, passport, or recent utility bill.

Does Gold Parties Australia choose to work with any charities?

Absolutely! We recognise the need to support local charities and are currently assisting many charities throughout Australia. If you run a charity, we can easily help you to create your own Gold Party with your regular donors in attendance, to earn money for your organisation. As the host of this party you will receive 10% of the final takings, and further to this, your charity will receive 5% commission from parties booked at your event. Please note that your contributors may choose to donate the entire amount received from Gold Parties Australia to your charity. Call (02) 8021 3123 for further details.
